These aren't rules โ€” they're practical guidelines from the collective experience of this community. The goal is to help people get the most benefit from kratom while minimizing risks.

## The Fundamentals

**1. Dose tracking.** Know what you're taking. Use a scale, not a spoon. Spoon measurements vary 2-3x based on how you scoop.

**2. Strain rotation.** Using the same strain daily builds tolerance faster and reduces effectiveness. Rotating 2-3 strains maintains effectiveness and keeps doses lower.

**3. Tolerance breaks.** Even occasional breaks (1-2 days per week, or a week off monthly) significantly extend the useful life of your kratom use.

**4. Hydration.** Kratom can cause dehydration. Drink enough water. This isn't a small point โ€” many negative experiences are partly dehydration.

**5. Empty stomach awareness.** Kratom on an empty stomach has faster onset and stronger effects. This can be useful but can also lead to unintended overdosing. Know your context.

**6. Avoid mixing with CNS depressants.** Combining kratom with alcohol, benzodiazepines, opioids, or other depressants increases risks meaningfully. Kratom alone is relatively safe; kratom in combination is less predictable.

## Red Flags Worth Monitoring

- Doses consistently creeping upward
- Feeling like you can't function without your morning dose
- Skipping social obligations to use
- Using to cope with stress as a default rather than by choice

These don't mean you have a "problem" necessarily โ€” they're worth noticing and being honest with yourself about.

## Liver Health

Some cases of kratom-associated liver injury have been documented. The risk appears to be rare but real. Periodic liver function tests (basic metabolic panel, available through most primary care) are a reasonable precaution for daily users. Many people use kratom for years without liver issues, but knowing your baseline is useful.

## Honest Conversations Welcome

This is a harm reduction space. You can ask honest questions here without being lectured. If you're worried about your use, say so โ€” you'll get real responses, not judgment.
